From The Start by Melissa Tagg

First Line: "How in the world had rain earned such a romantic rep?"
My question is how in the world can one author produce such awesome stories without letting me down even once?
I don't mean to gush--reviewers who always seem to love every novel they read tend not to ring true--but I'm a Melissa Tagg fan for one solid reason: She writes the most hilarious, witty, achingly real, and craveably fun novels. That's a combination I can't easily ignore.
From The Start is the first full-length novel in Tagg's latest series. The book is set in Maple Valley, Iowa and involves an ex-football player and an out-of-work writer who sorely need some revitalization. Their lives crash together, and that, folks, is the beginning of something amazing.
I'm not a football fan and I've never had a desire to see Iowa, but this story sparked my interest in both. (Still, baseball will always be my sort of choice. To watch, not play, FYI.)
One of my favorite parts of a Tagg novel is that she knows how to write dialogue in a way that the reader "hears" the characters speaking. Realistic and snappy. Descriptions are another thing the author does incredibly well. She gives you enough to wrap you in the scene without making you feel as if you're reading a dry newspaper article. Her writing has a crisp flow that proves Melissa Tagg has honed her craft into near-perfection.
Like I said, I don't meant to gush, but the facts are the facts--Tagg can write, and I'll buy any novel she puts out.

My only complaint deals with the cover--the models don't fit the images in my head. The models seem too young. Of course, that has nothing to do with the quality of the book.

From the Back Cover:
Kate Walker used to believe in true love and happily ever after. While her own love life may have left her brokenhearted, it hasn't kept her from churning out made-for-TV romance movie screenplays. . .until a major career slump and a longing to do something meaningful send her running back to her hometown of Maple Valley.
Permanently sidelined by an injury, former NFL quarterback Colton Greene is temporarily hiding out in a friend's hometown to avoid the media and the reminders of all he's lost. Maple Valley seems like the perfect place to learn how to adjust to normal life. The only trouble is he's never really done normal before.
While Kate plays things safe and Colton is all about big risks and grand gestures, they both get what it's like to desperately need direction in life. An unexpected project gives them both a chance to jumpstart their new lives, but old wounds and new dreams are hard to ignore. Starting over wasn't part of the plan, but could it be the best thing that's ever happened to them?

***Tagg also has FREE novella available that is actually a prequel to From The Start! Don't miss Three Little Words! You can download it here.***

*I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.*
