Won Jane Eyre In A Giveaway

I must admit I've read Pride and Prejudice (numerous times) and Northanger Abbey but not Jane Eyre. Until I won the novel in one of Kristy Cambron's giveaways.

While I've tried to read a few beloved classics, some bored me, plain and simple. That's awful to say, isn't it? I can't be a real bookworm if I haven't read Tolstoy or Dickens, right? (To be fair, I haven't yet tried to read Tolstoy, and I have read excerpts from A Christmas Carol by Dickens.)

Jane Eyre is one I plan to finish though. A few chapters in, and I already love it. One section actually made me laugh out loud on the bleachers at a softball game. Oh, and I caught a few people's attention as I read. They asked, "Are you reading that for school?"

I'm pretty sure I surprised with my, "No, not school. Just because."

It's been a little while since I allowed myself to read for the sake of reading--not because I had to write a review. I missed that. Thank the Lord for book giveaways!

Have you read Jane Eyre? What's your favorite kind of giveaway? (I'll be having another one soon!)
Amazon gift card? A book? A few books? Maybe a box of lemonheads? The lemonheads might just be my thing.

  1. Haha! Jane Eyre on the bleachers. I love it.

I haven't read many classics. I got bored, too, lol. I did like Persuasion by Jane Austen (got through the whole thing, because I'd not discovered the movie, yet. I've only read bits and pieces of Jane Eyre (Again, the movie thing. Once I realized I could watch in 1&1/2 hrs, instead of reading for 9-12 hrs, I decided to watch it.)

I did read the Hobbit!!! Before the movie came out. :) Oh, and The Old Man and the Sea. But it was a school project. And depressing. :( I have several classics sitting on my shelf now. The Scarlet Letter, Jane Eyre, Huckleberry Finn, Little Women, Alice In Wonderland, The Screwtape Letters. Just haven't found time to read them. I will someday! :D

My fave giveaway is always a gift card, unless it's a book I've really been wanting.

One fun giveaway idea is a character-themed goodie box/bag. Like, if your character is obsessed with beef jerky, gourmet teas, or a certain piece of jewelry or nail color. :)

    1. I had to read excerpts from a lot of classics for school. And I endured Shakespeare. Finished The Scarlet Letter for school as well. Watching movie versions often makes me want to read the book. That's how I got into Pride and Prejudice.
That is a great giveaway idea!

  2. I actually like a couple of Shakespeare's comedies, probably because I was never MADE to read them, only picked them up to satisfy my curiosity. I liked Much Ado About Nothing and The Taming of the Shrew. A Midsummer Night's Dream was kind of weird. I never finished it or As You Like It, and I haven't had any desire at all to read the tragedies, lol. I may have read Hamlet for school. Can't remember. It was weird, too. Shakespeare had a liking for poisoning characters, I think. HA!

    1. The Taming of the Shrew was pretty good, but I like Leslie Gould's Courting Cate more.
The excerpts from Hamlet, etc., that I read for school were more than enough to fill my Shakespeare appetite. ;)
